Jewelley Care Tips
Jewelry is one of our most intimate and cherished accessories. Understanding how to care for and protect your treasured jewelry can make a world of difference in maintaining its beauty and keeping your heirlooms sparkling for generations to come.
- Remove your jewellery before engaging in practical activities, this will ensure that your jewellery does not get damaged.
- Beauty products for skin and hair can react with precious stones and metals, causing your jewellery to tarnish, discolour and possibly corrode. I recommend removing all jewellery while applying cosmetics, scents and sprays.
- Exposure to the environment can cause your jewellery to tarnish over time, however storing your jewellery in airtight boxes or bags will keep it looking newer for longer.
- Damp or humid conditions can cause your jewellery to oxidize. Remove all jewellery before bathing or showering and do not keep it on a windowsill or near a radiator.
- Try to avoid dropping your jewellery as the surface may scratch or dent. If you have a scratch that needs to be removed please use my Clean and Polish service.
- Never wear jewelry when doing physical work such as housekeeping, gardening or exercise
Most jewelry pieces come in a box or pouch from the store, which is a perfect place to keep them. Sterling silver, for example, should be kept in an anti-tarnish bag or cloth. Jewelry boxes that feature individually padded slots for rings and posts for hanging necklaces and bracelets are also ideal. When traveling, protect your jewelry pieces from scratches or other impact damage by padding it in a separate box or case.
